The concept of mobile dental units using dentists hired by your company to provide on-sit dental screenings, treatment follow-up and on-going dental home services seems almost too good to be true...I look forward to assisting in this important new opportunity for our Head Start children.

Iva Pittman, Health Manager Buchanan County Head Start Grundy, VA

Thank you all of your help. Without help from people like you, some of our children would never have the opportunity to have a dental check-up

On behalf of Higher Horizons Head Start, I would like to thank you all for the wonderful dental services you provided to our children. Your caring and gentle approach made this such a positive experience. Our students were talking about it all day...a special thank you for taking such good care of our children.

S.Bryan Wilson and Judy Jones accept award from Virginia Head Start Association  representative, and S.E.M.D.S. customer, Darrell Edwards at their annual Spring Conference in Fredricksburg, Virginia.

Association Honors Dental Group
Awards and Recognition

The Virginia Head Start Association honored Southeast Mobile Dental Services with its annual Friend of Head Start Award on April 10 at the conference. Darrell Edwards, Kids Central director, described the plight of many programs not being able to meet standards in the area of dental. "Then one day I got a call from this guy telling me what he could do for us," Edwards explained. "When he finished talking, I asked, 'Why aren't you on your way up here?!" Though Edwards spoke from the perspective of an isolated area with few services, many programs in the Association find themselves in the same situation -- too few dentists to serve Head Start children.

Enter Bryan Wilson, his assistant Judy Jones, and the Southeast Mobile Dental Services program. SEMDS brings a dental van right on site to Head Start programs, does the screenings, and comes back for follow-up. Edwards reported that they have been to his program three times this year. According to Judy Jones, they will visit each program three times by the end of the school year. SEMDS understands Head Start dental requirements and works to help programs meet these goals.

Currently SEMDS serves 14 Virginia programs: Apple Country, Buchanan County, Culpeper, Eastern Shore, Fairfax County, HOPE, Mountain CAP, New River, Kids Central, Orange County, Rooftop, Scott County, Shenandoah Valley and Skyline CAP. They also serve some VPI programs

Thank you, SEMDS. You are truly a Friend Of Head Start!!
